Hi. I'm korean and the one who's been intersted in SUMO since the middle of 1996. In that time, I was living in Korea (now living in Canada). Except public broadcasting only two channels were able to be watched on TV, those were BS1 and BS2, so I started to watch sumo wrestling. To be honest, I didn't like it, otherwise, I could understand none of programs on BS channels except sumo. As you know, without understanding of certain language, sports can get people pleasure. That was the only one reason why I kept watching sumo wrestling. And one day I saw you, KAIO.
I could see that your movement were very powerful. It apealed to me. In addition, I was thinking to become a fan of one wrestler rather than watching sumo wrestling without any interests though I didn't like it very much because it was the only one program that I can understand at least.............. So I decided to become your fan.
In library I looked for what the sumo is exactly. My interests in sumo increased little by little. I also looked for about you, Kaio. So I got to know you're same age like my sister. When I was child, my mom and dad went for work in the early morning , and came back in the late night. So my sister was like my mom for me at least. It may sounds funny, but I think it was the only one reason why I felt more close to you and why I wished you to win the game every time. Even though Takanohana and Wakanohana were the most popular sumo wrestlers that time, I didn't care of them. Only you, kaio, was the one who I wished to win the competetion. But I was concerned about your age was a bit much for keeping having a game in Basho. When Takanohana and Wakanohana got to abstract themself from basho, the one who I thought was you. Cuz if you get retired, there remained no reason for me to keep watching sumo. But you didn't.
I entered a university in1998, and absent myself from school temporarily to finish my duty in army in the end of 1998. It was impossible for me to watch TV as a private. Acctually, even so I was able to watch TV, there was no BS channels. But whenever I got a vacation like 5 days or 10 days, I remembered you, and check the result from internet.
One day in army, when I was a sergeant, I was watching TV on the floor. Nobody could touch me cuz I was the highest level among soldiers. I had never expected to watch the sumo in army. But that day, when I turned the channel to another one to find music program, I couldn't believe my eyes. BS channel was there on TV, in addition, the sumo game was broadcasting. In army, everybody loves to watch music program because it is the only one way they can see beautiful girls. Even I wasn't an exception. But to see you, KAIO, I gave up my music program. I remember that time. Nobody could blame on me, but I could see their eyes, crying...ahahahah!!! Anyway...I could see you and you won the game. I said to myself inside "YES!!! what the!!! oh~~YEAH~~", but there was no movement on my face cause I had to show my dignity to them. hahaha. It was the first and the last time for me that I was able to watch sumo in army. And I came back to school in 2001.
I finished my study in the university watching sumo. In 2004, I got a job and had been sent here, to Canada. Honestly, since that time I've been forgetting you. I had lots of works to do and even I couldn't pay attention to myself. Acctually I still have a lot of stuffs to be finished. Today one of my friends sent me a email. It was about sumo movie clip touched such as a game movie clip. If you go through this link, you can see it.
http://www.youtube.com/v
This reminded me you. And I looked for your records as returning to me who loved sumo. I worried you'd already retired, but you were still there. I'm about to go back to myself who enjoy the sumo, love the sumo, and as a fan of KAIO. Yokozuna Kaio, Ozeki Kaio, Komusbi Kaio, Sekiwake Kaio, I don't care of them honestly. I just care of the one who made me to be intersted in the sumo, the one who used to stretch his arm to other wrestler who've lost the game by him, the one who couldn't push other wrestler strongly out of the ring in case he got injured, the one who used to show his smile to people even though it's considered as lack distinction as one sumo wrestler, and the one who has the name of.......... KAIO.
For me, it's very enough that I can watch you in the ring even so you lose the game. I don't know why, but I feel like I've got to find something important that I lost long time ago. I guess it's because sumo woke you up in me as you had realized me what the sumo is when I started to watch the sumo on tv , and you returned me to myself that I had lost.
Even so you get retired someday, I'll still remain as a fan of you. And you'll also be kept in my mind as one person who curved his name on my life time.
From Park Kunwoo (朴根佑) in Toronto, Canada.

to see you fight for at least 2 more years since you still have
fighting spirit and a lot of power in that right arm. We are
hoping for a yusho as you're much stronger than the yokozuna, and

Ozeki Kaio :
Simple words cannot express the joy and the hope your outstanding performance is bringing hope and great joy to chronic back pain patients the world over. Every day you that you ascend the steps of the Dohyo and work your special Kaio magic is another day people all over the world look up to you in admiration.
Look at the Great Ozeki Kaio. He laughs in the face of back pain! He does what other top Rikishi cannot do, and they do not have the back demon trying to drag them down.
Carry on, great warrior. Continue fighting the good fight. Each victory brings hope to the hopeless, and joy to countless thousands who had forgotten what joy is. I know this is true. I am one of the chronic back pain sufferers who marvels at your supernatural ability.
All of us wait for that great day in the near future when you will take the Dohyo to receive your Yusho prize!
Sincerely,
Douglas DeShong Brighton, Illinois United States

Dear Kaio-zeki
Beautiful win today against Komusubi Roho... and once again with an Uwatenage. The Komusubi's Tachi-ai was very powerful, but you absorb the shock well. Hope that your lower back is fine after this terrible tachi-ai...
Tomorrow you can have the Kachi-koshi...so you will be more relax for the next week of the basho (you look so relax since the start of the Kyushu Basho. Is it possible to be more relax ? lol). Your first objective is the KK ... but with no pressure on you and nothing to lose, all your fans from all-around the world will continue to encourage you more and more ....and will hope for something more ;-)

Kaio, you've got lot's of admirers in Brasil. You have shown us
the most powerfull uwatenages ans kotenages(which we call
kaionage, for no other rikishi could match the power of yours) and
were glad you could show us that good start in your hometown. Even
my girlfriend likes you more than me. She keeps saying you're her
big bear and she´s happy because you're smilling after the bouts.
Keep up with your always forward-moving sumo. GANBARE!!!

Kaio made a good “tachi-ai”, then, he concentrated on the opponent’s movement. He is calm and concentrate what he has to do…☆☆
Kaishoryu moved smoothly in the second half of his bout today. His sumo becomes wider and he won ☆
Kaisei is obviously stronger than other rikishi in this (Jonokuchi) rank…☆ He might win many!!

Hello, everyone! Kyushubasho started today! Your messages really comfort and cheer rikishi up !
Kaio’s first day was welcomed by big, big, big cheers and applause. He was determined to win from tachi-ai, today! Everybody waited this kind of ☆! Good start for Kyushu! He will just make a bit lower tachi-ai for tomorrow’s opponent, then, he will be fine!
After kyujo last basho, Kaishinho could fight better than he thought and got ☆! Kainohama is fine as last basho although he injured his ankle a bit …☆! Kainowaka and Kaisenryu seem to become slow starters….★….

On 3rd (last Friday), the “rikishi-fans communication” was held in Tomozunabeya in Fukuoka. John-san, thank you for coming. We hope you enjoyed the event. A lot of people gathered for the event, and we thank them all.
Kaio goes “de-geiko” almost everyday pacing his keiko up and has been making his good condition. He is often surrounded by media because Kyushu is his “home-ground”! He cheerfully responds the interviews. Kaishoryu’s knee is a bit concerned; Kaisenryu’s condition is not stable yet; Kainohama injured his ankle but not so serious which would be ok; Kaisei’s sumo is progressed. Kaishinho cannot do keiko as much as he wants because of his eye condition, but he will be permitted by his doctor to participate Kyushu-basho. Kainowaka is fine!! His winning score must be promised

Dear Tomozuna Beya I am currently in Fukuoka on my honeymoon and will be attending the first day of the Kyushu basho.I have been Australian and Oceania sumo champion and have just competed in my 4th amateur Sumo world Championships Osaka a few weeks ago and would like to attend the event listed below with my wife. Could you please send me details. Also if there is any possibility of watching any other keiko or even getting some tips I would very much appreciate it as I used to be 145kgs but now compete as a lightweight in the under 85kg class and need all the help I can get.
